Holiday Planning on a Budget #5 – 3 Tips for Saving Money While Shopping Online

holiday shopping onlineAs you may have learned from my previous Holiday Planning on a Budget articles, there are many ways to save money during the holiday season.  In this article, I will be sharing 3 easy tips for saving money when shopping online.

Money Saving Tip #1 – Online Coupon Codes

Imagine: You’re shopping online and have just found the perfect gift for a friend at her favorite store.  But wait! Before you hit the “pay now” button, do a quick search online to see if you can find a coupon code.  Simply type the name of the store and the words “coupon code” into your search engine. You’ll receive a list of results that will include coupon sites and promotional offers. Look for a code that matches your needs and enjoy the instant savings!  It’s so easy to do, and you may be surprised at how much money you can save.  Often, the coupon will be enough to cover the shipping cost, so it is really worth taking a minute to do a quick search.

Money Saving Tip #2 – Free Shipping Offers

Sometimes buying an item online just makes sense; because many major retailers offer free shipping during the holidays, with no minimum purchase.  Why spend time driving, parking and waiting in line for the same item, when you can purchase it online and have it shipped directly to the recipient at no extra charge? You can find the gift you want, at a price you can afford, and you don’t have to worry about paying extra to ship the gift to your recipient.  Most major retailers also offer gift wrap.  There is often a small fee involved, but you’re saving yourself a lot of time when you take advantage of this convenient service.

Money Saving Tip #3 – Group Coupon Deals

Group coupon sites have become quite popular and are another way to save money during the holiday season. You can find group coupons for many items, including restaurants, event tickets and personal services.  You can also often find group coupon discounts for gift cards, which have become a popular and acceptable gift for today’s busy people.

With as much time that we’re spending on the computer these days, e.g. watching TV shows and movies, listening to music, watching YouTube videos, socializing on Facebook, etc., being online is no longer an inconvenience (for most people, anyway).  So, while online, familiarize yourself with some of your favorite stores, and see if you can save some time and money by shopping online instead of visiting the store.
