How to Organize Your Diaper Bag

How to stay organized as a new mom can be a challenge. As we know, babies, especially newborn babies, can be unpredictable and moms want to be able to stay on top of their demands, both at home and while they’re out and about.  A well stocked and organized diaper bag can be a lifesaver when mom is away from home with baby.

If you’re a busy mom with a baby, you’ll agree that you need all the help you can get, so it’s also a good idea to have a simple checklist of baby supplies that you typically need when taking baby on a trip.  Just remember to check your list before you  leave the house, so that you don’t forget anything. Ideally, checking your list should be done the night before to avoid a last minute rush out the door.

Below, I have included a list of some of the typical items you might need before leaving the house. Personalize this list for your own needs. Then make several copies to keep on the fridge, or somewhere else convenient to use everyday:

• 2-4 diapers
• Diaper pad
• Baby wipes and tissues
• Baby bibs
• Bottle and dry formula (if required)
• Sippy cup for toddlers
• Burp cloths
• Plastic bags (to discard soiled diapers)
• Baby rash cream or ointment
• Baby powder and/or baby lotion
• Extra set of clothes
• Travel size first aid kit
• Blanket
• Snacks (for toddlers)
• Snacks for mom and water bottle
• Sunscreen and/or sun hat (if required)
• Pacifier (if required)
• Camera – for those unexpected “Kodak” moments

If you’re a mom and in the market for a new diaper bag, or you’re thinking of buying a diaper bag as a gift for a new mom, check out the vast selection at  The diaper bag pictured (yes, it’s a diaper bag!) is called the JP Lizzy Diaper Bag and is available from  Diaper bags have definitely come a long way!

Been years since I carried a diaper bag, but you encouraged me to organize my knitting bag and my quilt room. So thanks. I can now find everything. The kitchen? Forget it. I don’t like cooking anyway.
